Executive Director, Manav Seva Sansthan "SEVA"
Mr. Jata Shanker is the Executive Director of Manav Seva Sansthan"SEVA", a voluntary organization registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 in 1988. Under his leadership and guidance the organization has spread its activities in 3 districts of Uttarakhand,10 districts of Uttar Pradesh, 10 districts of Bihar and 1 district in West Bengal. The activities initiated by Mr. Jata Shanker saw the organization breaking grounds and finding new paths in community development.
Regional Convener, Cross Border Anti Trafficking Network

In 2002, a South Asian regional conference on Strengthening cross border coordination to combat trafficking was held. It was decided that there is a need to establish a South Asian Regional Network to combat the flesh trade in Women & Children. Mr. Jata Shanker, thus took the lead to converge Government & Public resources to form Cross Border Anti Trafficking Network which eventually turned out to be the biggest Anti-trafficking network has been recognized by government and international agencies.

Learning from a research saying the load of bags on students affects their growth and physical development, Mr. Jata Shanker introduced for the first time in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, the “bagless education” concept. A firm believer in education and academics, he has initiated several education projects for children from the pro-poor community. Starting from the urban community children, the school has now spread its wings in the rural areas of District Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh state, where the school provides free education to girls of the tribal communities.

In 2003, Mr. Jata Shanker initiated a nationwide campaign to promote organic agriculture throughout the country. In this campaign, agriculture universities, research institutions, NGOs, Students, Farmers and activists came forward and associated with network. Under the extension strategy,NFFOROAM has established 5 zones in the country – East Zone,West Zone, North Zone, South Zone and Mid Zone. A total of 1052 NGOs from the country are the member of NFFOROAM. Besides, more than 1 Lakh farmers are availing the pleasure of NFFOROAM’s Membership.

Organized Community Based Organizations along Indo-Nepal Border

Mr. Jata Shanker has played a significant role in organizing community based organizations along Indo-Nepal border. OBC, Minority, SC and ST people have organized 582 CBOs in the region and thus a total of approx 30,000 people are in direct touch with Manav Seva Sansthan “SEVA”,Gorakhpur.

MSS has formed 7872 SHGs in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Each SHG is comprised of at least 15 women members. Therefore a total of approx 1,20,000 women are in direct touch of the organization. These SGHs ensure their leading role to get their entitlements and benefit of Govt. welfare
